Terms and Conditions

What can I donate?

For our free collection service to remain viable for us so that we can fund our vital end of life care and reduce any waste disposal costs it is important that your generously donated furniture items are in a good and saleable condition for them to be sold on in our shops.

Therefore, all collections and donations, will be at our drivers discretion on the day, as to what they can accept/safely remove. This means that we are unable to guarantee the collected donations during the booking process.

Please refer to the list provided below, of the donations we cannot accept or accommodate collections for.

Please ensure that you check through the below requirements before completing the form:

What won‘t we accept for furniture collection?

Upholstered items have fire labels

By law, we cannot sell upholstered furniture in our stores without a fire safety certificate.

Upholstered furniture is furniture with cushioning, padding or fabric covering. Examples  include sofas and padded dining chairs.

If you are donating upholstered furniture, you must make sure that:

  • there is a fire safety label firmly attached or sewn into every item you donate
  • there are no rips or tears that expose the inner fabric, as this means it no longer meets fire safety standards.

Please see below an example of a fire safety certificate:

Please note the below is a match resistant label. The furniture item needs a certificate sewn in or attached to be eligible for collection.

Our van crews can’t accept items that do not meet this criteria.

All furniture must be saleable and in a good condition

  • No rips, tears, stains or rust.
  • No signs or history of woodworm.
  • No obvious odours / smoke free household.
  • Are in a clean condition.
  • No fading or major discoloration.
  • No damaged or missing parts.
  • Must be in a working order.
  • Upholstery must have a fire certificate attached or sewn in.

To donate bags or boxes of clothes, books, toys and smaller items, you can drop your items off at your local St Luke’s charity shop.

Not sure if you can donate your items to us?

If you feel your item cannot be sold, you can find local organisations who will recycle your items.
